I Just Watched “It’s Not Unusual, A Lesbian & Gay History Part 3 (BBC2, 1997)” on YouTube

March 4, 2021

This is part three of the series….. It covers the 60’s and 70’s and 80’s. I’d love to see an update on the people featured in this documentary. I wish the US had something similar to this…. But from an American perspective.

The AIDS crisis during the 1990’s was discussed quite a bit…. Margaret Thatcher, similiar to Ronald Regan, was not helpful or empathetic towards homosexuals…. She actually impeded progress in the fight to obliterate the virus.

While watching this, I thought a lot about Clyde Grubbs, I always enjoyed hearing his stories. He and Ted were together as far back as the 1950’s… Ted didn’t live long enough to see gay marriage legalized in the US.

I hate that Clyde had to be so mean and just walked off when mom tried to look out for him.. I’ve thought about contacting him. I hope he’s ok and not lonely. I would love to watch this with him. It’s coming up on four years that he came into my life again… It will be three in a couple of days when I stayed the night with him so I could be there at his doctor’s appointment. I remember him telling me that the last time he went that he had to lie and say someone was with him…. he was being sedated. I miss him.

Anyway, he was coming of age in the eras this documentary covers….
